I always like to have a discussion on these points. I agree the effect will be less if you are an 85kg 177 driver. However, think of it like this.
You have a 45kg Mini Max driver....It starts raining or you simple want to move percentages forward.
Mechanics may either move the seat or put a pad behind the driver making him/her uncomfortable. Now remember that you are moving the kids mass but not the legs which weigh 15KG....So you are actually moving 30KG of kid. If you move the 15KG engine (half the weight of the kid) 50mm that equates to effectively moving the kid 25mm. Without the use of the pad or moving the kid forward into an uncomfortable position.
Comfortable kid = fast kid.
