it could be that the officials were looking at the front of the grid at the start to ensure there were no jump starts there. the clear was usually standing on the yellow line before the start for almost all race starts and the starter was on a gantry above the start line as has been said before officials cannot be looking everywhere at once and even if they do see an incident they have to be sure of who caused it before action can be taken.

and be in no doubt it wasn't because you were a visitor that the other lad wasn't penalised all are treated as equally as can be

i'm also intrigued as to how you could witness the problem at the start line and the accident at the hairpin at the same time as the hairpin is not visible from near the start line.
