Brian, What sort of kart are we looking at and where are you going to run it? If it's a Biland for example, I wouldn't even consider putting on brand new Bridgestone YDS tyres let alone ones that have been left for a couple of years!
Back in October or November I used a set of three year old Vega SL6 tyres that had done at least three meetings during 2010 to shake down a Senior Max at Teesside and it was in the low 44s with the front chicane in!
I don't think your average karter is used to using the Shore (presumably A) scale for checking their tyres!
BTW, if you just want tyres for fun use, the Kartlines that Dave Wilson used to have the Pro Kart Sprint Series running on are very good value for money and have a reasonable level of grip.
