I think the key to the Black dry rims is the fact that the centre of the hub that contacts the hub has less mass as it has been machined on the inner and outer surface. It appears this changes the heat transfer & flex characteristics from a wheel from other types with the same offset but with a "cast" type finish.

We tested several times and the black wheels do give better and more consistent performance than wheels with exactly the same dimensions but slightly different manufacturing methods.
