NKF has a great "club" type atmosphere to the championship or certainly did when I raced in Jnr Max many years a go. Didn't have controlled fuel, even though tyres were unrestricted nobody seemed to use more than 1 fresh set a meeting and was very enjoyable racing.
JohnM I fail to see what is not safe about Wombwell.. I raced there in Cadets, Jnr Max and briefly Snr Max and I have never had any safety issues with the circuit.
Many complain about the walls but as Jon Wright said previously it has to pass MSA safety inspection each year to gain a track license. And if Gearbox classes could race safely round it many years a go why can't it be done now..?
As far as facilities go, sure they aren't worlds best but as its not a permanant kart facility I'd imagined they are limited on what can be built and sustained.
