Are you saying it's reasonable to ask for £49 for a book that tells me what I already know and a unique code so I can apply for an ARKs test costing £110, when all I need is a rules written test that would surely cover what has changed since I stopped, and to prove I hadn't forgotten the basic rules.
It's not a simplistic case of it costs the same as a tyre - actually Arks + Starter pack costs £160, add a medical of a lower standard than my company medical for £130 minimum, so we're up to £290. Add in an MSA approved helmet for £300 (I have a very high quality motorcycle helmet that I'd feel much happier wearing in the event of an accident), then we're up to pretty much £600 as an entry to MSA racing. That's actually what 4 sets of tyres, or most of a seasons non-MSA tyres.
Anyhow, the decision's been made - I'll stick to non-MSA stuff, and it's purely because the MSA costs are not worth the benefits.
I do however object to your assumptions of how I go racing. I fund myself, and always considered myself a pretty sporting kind of chap.
