I agree that magnesium wheels and some of the other stuff is over the top for a cadet. However, his father (aka yours truly) is a newbie in Rotax Max and will try out stuff on the big kart first to learn what it will do. Now that Itpro and others have told me which changes are minute and which could actually make a noticeable difference, I'm getting a better understanding of what to do.

As you say, the pilot should feel no pressure. It is actually good excerise for a father-son relationship to only give positive feedback. If the lap time is bad, I'll focus on a good line or a late braking.
