From memory that is common at 3 sisters 1st corner. The rule that really needs to be enforced is giving the other driver(s) adequate room. The owness has always been on the overtaking driver to get it right but once a pass has commenced, whether fully alongside or not it is up to both drivers to give each other racing room to avoid contact.
It's all very well in karts where the speeds are relatively low but if they progress to cars then this type of manoevre becomes very dangerous.
My son was recently 'moved onto the grass' during a F Renault race at Thruxton. He was overtaking exiting Church corner and ended up going sideways on the grass at more than 130mph. Luckily it didn't roll and he escaped unscathed.
There are always 2 sides to every story but it does make you think sometimes.
