i AM a novice though, and the trophies aren't just nice shiny things to put on my shelf, they're a reminder of all the hard work I put in to get them.
Because although I have more experience than the other novices, my first proper MSA races were (are) still pretty daunting and very hard going.
For example, on my first race day I had my seat fitted too low and it was grounding out and I didn't have time to move it. By the final there was a huge hole all the way through the seat and I was rubbing my bum along the ground at 78mph. It wore a hole all the way through my suit, underwear and hurt like hell as it also wore a hole in my bum.
But I kept going and the shiny bit of metal on my shelf is a reminder of the effort I put in to actually finish the race. The scar on my bum would do the same job, but I can't see that..
The others are reminders of other such things and I'm sure as hell not going to give them away to some other bloke because I happen to have done a bit more karting beforehand than he has.
