Even if the cost of the tyre spikes had been announced earlier I doubt if it would have affected the entry numbers.
If the budget is really so tight that this would make the difference then entering a antional series seems very silly. The cost of damage over a race weekend could easily run to far more than the cost of a couple of tyre spikes.
Costs have risen to cover the TV coverage, cameras etc but enough people seem willing to pay this to make the series viable.
You can still match yourself againgst the S1 drivers by competing at clubs the month before they host a S1 round.
