Sorry but I disagree, the point of Cadet Libre is for all the kids to mix it together, but also to get credit for the result in relation to others in the same class. Like Endurance racing.
We raced at Forest many times in Cadet libre. On a few occasions we had the overall win in a Honda with 20 + comers (along with similar numbers of Hondas) on the results sheet behind us, some of our best races were against quick comers and it certainly pushed us to raise our own Game, without the Comers on the same grid there would have been 4 or 5 Honda's clearing off together every weekend with nobody else to race.
However at the end of the day the equipment is not equal so credit needs to be given for your position against the same class, just as it seems to be done in this case.
The number of trophies handed out also need to be proportional to the number of entries. If there were only two Honda it would be ridiculous to give one to 2nd place as he is also last in his class.
The only point I would make, was that at Forest all the trophies are(were) the same size for the relevent position, whether it was Gearbox or Cadet. Coming from races where the winner of the Cadets gets a thimble on a plinth and 5th (and last) place Gearbox kart gets something Lewis or Jenson would be proud of, this was really refreshing and did a lot to motivate the kids.
