I have had 2 approaches towards this kind of thing with my lad. When either his driving or set up has gone wrong.
My preferred (and cheaper) is to not race. Go to a track to just "test". Run thru all your set up, try different carbs, wheels, engines, exhausts in a planned methodical way. That way, he knows he has and has been part of picking the best equipment available to you. Also a quiet track (we like Hooton for this) a decent driver can easily be the fastest thing there.
the second method is to get some one to one again at a quiet track with a driver coach or just someone in the know. There is something about a Dad giving a son advice that just sometimes doesn't go in. I often tell my lad that so & so's Dad has said he has a breaking point or turn in wrong. When they have said nothing. They just seem to accept that advice over yours.
I to have a 13 year old who goes thru this. We have to run Jnr Max due to the physical size of him so he is up against 15, 16, 17 year olds.
