because as long as you dont flat through the gel coat it is not coming into contact with the helmet!!!!
i just painted a bell and it says on the inside sticker that you can only paint the outside.
all paint methods require the use of solvent paints even if it is just to seal the base coat.
all formula 1 helmets are custom painted, fact.
i know this as one of my best mates is the painter at Mclaren.
