I agree that neck braces do do something. Imagine in a shunt your body won't move since its braced by the seat and your arms on the wheel. Your (probably tired allready from the g forces) neck is holding up a heavy helmet. Due to Newtons law the helmet and your heavy head will want to keep on going even though your body will have stoped and there for putting strain on your neck that could cause injury. A neckbrace as the name sujests braces your neck so it is more rigid and there for your head can't move so much when you are shunted therefore putting less strain on your neck and reducing the chance of injury. Yes people walk away from spectaclary large accidents without injury however though there is no proof that they help, GCSE physics will tell you that neck braces would help.
