I think they are tested in different ways.
The snell helmets like the Arai are designed to take higher impacts it would seem.
Think Felipe massa style accedent.

Motorsycle helmets usually designed for lesser inpacts on the head. less G.

Snell 2005 protects from you taking your head off when a wheel hits you but you may get brain damage.....DOT, ECE etc are designed in the hope you dont have such a big impact to take your head off, but wont get brain damage.

It sort of makes sense when you read this link
