The reason that I was given for the ban in the UK is that there are too many very old helments out there that although they have the correct stickers have probably degraded even if they haven't been abused. The big manufacturers don't bother to have their helmets certified to the British Standard any more. I asked the Arai technical support team at last year's TT races why this was and their attitude was that "it's an out of date standard. We manufacture to ec22" The result is that if I wanted to race around the roads of the Isle of Man at speeds of 190+ I can go to any motorcycle shop and buy Arai, Shoei, Airoh etc and comply with the regs. If I want to race a kart I need to buy a Snell certified Bell, Arai etc in white at vastly inflated prices.
