1) Granted re Competition Commission: that was certainly more of a rhetorical point; no-one will care about a monopoly in a small leisure-pursuit market like karting. However, while there are certainly single-product classes in car racing, there are many of them.
2) I don’t doubt that many 100cc drivers switched to Rotax or that more people will do so in future – I made that very prediction at the top this thread. But, in line with what Marc says, the saturation point is perhaps not far off. More people in other “classes” would surely migrate to non-association racing. We are told that’s the trend anyway.
3) Again like I said earlier: I agree that much of the market has already been handed to Rotax. But enshrine that in the MSA rulebook and you’ve ensured stagnation at best, but more likely much faster decline.
