If think it was more to do with HOW it was done/announced rather than the fine detail.
You're right - when you look at the average cost of a S1 season if there is such a thing; then the "extra" cost to enter each round is a small amount in overall terms. Ok the statement says anyone coming to the S1 stand was told about the increase but there seems to be a lot of regular customers who were caught unawares and saying Christmas/New Year was a factor when the forms have been out for a while called be viewed as being slightly disingenuous!
As an ex-S1er - I hope the series does get good grids and that something can also be done to ensure that when you get to rounds 5,6 and 7 if your class has 7 rounds, that a good % still turn up. Some classes like senior Rotax has seen a downwards trend in terms of no of entries and when you get 30% dropping out by the last round, it means you don't need a b-final.
As the UK Championship - you want to ensure you not only attract the best and in sufficient numbers but you maintian that throughout the season. How you solve that is probably due to a balance of format, costs etc.
But good luck and if it's your first time doing S1 it is enjoyable and different!
