I've read in the past that following the closure of the speedway track finally in 1948(where Billingtons is now, I guess?)the sports stadium we use today was built and the track - more or less as it is now was part of this development.
I just read in an old classic bike mag that the Wombwell kart track was first used in 1959 (though it does not specifically say for karts)
Thats 3 years after karting was said to have first originated in SoCal. Sounds early to me, but maybe?
So - can somebody tell me - did the editors of the bike mag get it wrong, or was this year - 2009 - the silver jubilee of the kart track at Wombwell (and we were all too busy racing and missed it!)???
If so - shame - deserves a celebration.
