Once upon a time you had to constantly adjust the ignition timing on a car or motorcycle as you drove. But I don't think we would expect to do that now. Surely it isn't rocket science nowadays to produce a carb that is even and doesn't need constant adjustment.

Apart from the safety aspect, I'd prefer to see the driver with the best race craft win, not the one most adept at fettling the carburation.
