Despite many of the little gripes we have about karting. Here's a little tale that will make you see how good it really is the UK.
The French Karting federation (FFSA) decided it wanted a new class. So they decided to make some space for it. So without consulation, they cancelled the existing class in that age group (14-18 years), a 100cc TAG class called, strangely enough, FFSA.
That was last year and while this caused a bit of confusion among the French, nobody really made much fuss. Then last week out of the blue in the FFSA quarterly magazine they announced the following.
All the existing age qualification for all classes below this age would be moved back a year. Which also involved cancelling the National championships for the youngest class.
Plus, the minimum age qualfication for the existing promotion classes above this age moved forward a year to age 15 (Rotax-X30 etc)
What this means that anyone who is 14 next year cannot compete in any other class except the new one created,(I mean any, no choice) they also have to buy the new homolagated engine and chassis. However that looks quite difficult at the moment, because although rumour has it that it will be something like Junior Max, it hasn't even be announced yet for the season starting in two months time.
So you see, you really do have it very good in comparison.
