I really do think Dads and competitors should take some responsibility for keeping up to date with changes in the regulations. I first put out that the BS6658 Type A helmets would be phased out from 1.1.10 back in May 2008 ABkC newsletter and that the A/FR would continue ok for the present. This went into Karting Magazine and was published in the Motorsports Now magazine that goes to all licence holders. (The Blue BS label is not be confused with the blue MSA validity sticker on the side, applied by a scrutineer. They may have a date or serial number but are not currently lifed.) The Type A standard goes back to 1985, and is old, the newer Snell ones are much better. In the same newsletter I informed about the CMR youth helmets. Although for a short time the KSC wanted to advance the dates for juniors, again what was said is correct (as IainB says). The CMR/S standard will likely become compulsory for all under-15s from 2013 (CIK/International from 2010). All of this is exactly as has been in the 2009 Start Karting brochure as well. So to summarise, only the BS6658 Type A going out is a change for next year. (The old adage springs to mind, you can bring a horse to water etc - I hope I am not wasting my time trying to inform the karting public about regulatory changes in the newsletters). Surely where kids safety is concerned, the best available standards are what we would all want to see, suitably phased in with advance notice of course. These 1985 standard helmets hava lasted a lot longer than eg the old kart suits
