Hi, Dan here from the helmet company.co.uk . Firstly I know your customer service issue wasn't with ourselves but would still like to say how dissapointed we are to here that. No retailer should behave like that in todays world.
We've done a little investigating on this issue today and found a few things out. At present its not compulsary for competitors under the age of 15 to purchase one of the new CMR helmets, and unlikely for 2010. We expect this to come in for 2011. We believe the MSA are deciding whether to introduce them for cadets next year or wait until 2011. However we understand that all CIK FIA events will require competitors below 15 to use a CMR approved helmet in 2010. Fortunately no events in the UK are currently CIK FIA.
In regards to VAT on the helmets we understand its a bit of a grey area. We also believed that VAT should not be charged on a childs helmets and therefore spoke with our suppliers and they tell us that the helmets although designed primarily for children and approved for their use are not solely for people under 15 years of age and adults can use them as they come in regular sizes of 53,54,55,56 cm etc. Because adults can use these helmets VAT is apprently chargable and therefore we get charged VAT from our suppliers etc.
The Helmet company share the feelings and views that they should be VAT free and therefore will be offering excellent prices and packages on these new CMR helmets as with all our products. Watch this space and if anyone has any questions regarding the child helmets please do not hesitate to contact Tom direct on 01952 262024.
