Ah, Bod, someone new, but in complete anonymity. Care to tell us what you drive / where you race? Give us a clue.
Anyway, if you are saying get a Rotax because you can race anywhere, anytime, then I’d say you’re quite right. It’s a blatantly obvious fact.
But some just don’t want the runaway market leader, no matter what the arguments in its favour are.
As for running hours before rebuild, some in the trade might say a lot of things to shift their product / stock. I choose not to repeat those nice, big, round numbers – not when talking about the Aixro either – because they are just that: too convenient and too attractive. I doubt that real world statistics on this exist. Only with the Biland do we have any idea that it can indeed go a long time, but only if that bl**dy belt doesn’t snap on you – as it has done for many people. As you suggest yourself, the same goes for any rebuild cost: how long is a piece of string? One thing’s for sure, it’ll be rather longer than short.
Finally, is there really that much more opportunity now to race those 250s? Besides, a handful of races are fine by me: I don’t have the time for more, and it keeps the spending under control / at a hobby level. In the meantime, I have the pleasure of the best darn kart engine money can buy – by far. Unlike the others mentioned here, it has a USP.
