It's interesting that one of the participants in this discussion has expressed the idea that the engine is 'too slow' for the tyres, while others note that some other junior classes are faster round the track and have stickier tyres.
If the problem was speed then one would expect to see the same accidents in the other classes, unless the argument is that the faster engine allows better drivers to be gone by the time the worse drivers get there and so less accidents happen.
Indeed, it has also been said that the problem with Rotax was that the grip level was so high that when the kart finally did let go, the accident was likely to be serious.
Other people have suggested elsewhere that too much of the decision into which class to enter is dictated by either the looks (a frequent argument against TKM and their lack of graphics) or lap times (an argument against F. Blue compared to Rotax), when the truth is that all these classes take similar skills to drive well.
Another truth is that one has to learn to drive defensively and recognise the weaknesses of the drivers around you. If the person in front is likely to make a mistake, then don't place yourself into a position where his mistake will wipe you out.
Some drivers are particularly aggressive, perhaps because their mentors insist that aggression is the same as will-to-win without realising that the top drivers are not necessarily aggressive.
Watching, for example, Craig Copeland drive round the outside of Forest's first corner and go into the Pit Chicane three abreast, overtaking 5 people without touching one of them, is a lesson in kart mastery and will to win. Someone else (unnamed) trying to shove his kart over the kerbs in an effort to get inside the corner and take out 4 people in the process is an exercise in aggression, particularly when he blames the others for being in his way!
