Leicestershire's proposed eco-town has been rejected, the Government announced today.
Pennbury, a 15,000-home development for land between Oadby, Great Glen and Stoughton witch would have meant the closure of Stretton Circuit, failed to make the shortlist of preferred sites for the flagship homes developments.
It was also not mentioned in a so-called "second wave" of developments which needed more work before the Government would consider them again.
It is thought that transport proposals were a key factor in it not winning support.
The eco-town project was intended to meet housing needs and tackle climate change, with as many as 10 environmentally-friendly settlements built by 2020, but has been dogged by controversy and opposition from local communities.
This development was due to be built across the Stretton Circuit site so we are delighted it has not gone ahead and would like to thank everyone in the Karting world that took the time last year to sign various petitions.
Your voice was one of many thousands that helped with the outcome.
