The fee is ridiculous. Mainly because, you can do absolutely everything right, and actually be correct in your protest...but **after** you've put your money down you find no one saw it. Or they simply don’t believe you, or the test for conformity isn’t available. The first response from any official when you have any complaint is 'put your money down' when all that might happen is that they'll say "cheers for the cash, no one saw anything....goodbye"
As I’ve said before, it's wrong for many reasons, 1. It punishes the poor who cannot afford to take a risk in protesting. Notice how the protests and appeals are made regularly by the 'name' drivers or drivers with rich parents.
2. The 'why don't you protest' mentality is regularly used to alleviate the responsibility of the MSA for everyone’s legitimacy. The responsibility for finding who is legal and who is not should be the MSA's and the MSA's alone. We pay for this stuff with our licence fees - we don't need an additional punishment for ensuring everyones legal and driving safely etc.
3. The 'need' for a protest suggests the MSA have failed to convince everyone that there is enough testing going on. This should not be the case.
