Andy , yes the values i quoted were averages for "typical" alloys used for the casting of wheels etc and there can be some very wide ranges of values depending on the alloy and its heat treatment. Certainly the AZ series (ZW 3) Mg alloys are stronger than the AM 60 commonly used for cast wheels, but the trade off is that the YTS gets closer to the UTS. And of course you could choose a stronger Al alloy...7000 series could give double the strength of the common 6000 series. Bottom line is, that even the lower values for Mg alloys are sufficient for the design loading on kart wheels ...until you hit something ! ( PS:-are you sure about that YTS value for ZW3 ?, i have never seen an AZ alloy with that high a figure even fully heat treated)
