i have to say,on NJB's advice
i changed the rims i use for race day(mags) to ali (which was what i was using on the saturdays) earlier in the year when it was cold because i found come race day,the kart felt completely different and i was struggling to get heat in the tyres early on in the race.
id been pretty sceptical about rims and didnt think that i had felt a difference previously between the two different sets.id had the issue two meetings in a row(being very happy with the setup of the kart on saturday with ali rims and struggling to get the tyres up to temp on the sunday with mags) but for the third meeting with the ali's on a sunday,i still had the kart id practiced with on the saturday
so for me,im paying more attention to that sort of thing now.i dont really care too much about the science and im generally pretty sceptical (but ill try it!)until i personallly can notice the difference and i did on this occasion
my advice is dont take anyones word for it.take it on board by all means but make your own mind up
as for the original question.ive never seen anyone use mags in the wet and jusdging by the "fashion" element you would imagine the kart tarts would be looking for every opportunity to get those mags on in the wet if it worked for them,it clearly doesnt
incidentally,do you get narrower mag rims as you do ali's?
