Thought I'd pass on my experience of today with a problematic Alfano. It might help someone else having a similar problem.

Went to start the Alfano on my lad's WTP cadet today only to find the display not functioning as it should. So I changed the battery but the problem remained. I then disconnected the two sensor leads from the back of the unit and the display came up as normal. Reconnecting the lap counter lead made the problem return and on closer inspection I found water had entered the cable end that screws onto the floor pan sensor.

I used a hot air gun to dry the cable end and sensor unit and found the problem had disappeared. Then I checked the function of the sensor by holding it against the metal laminations of the ignition coil and turning the engine over a few times with the sparkplug removed. The magnet in the flywheel passing under the laminations was sufficient to make the sensor register: job done!

Hope this saves someone a load of hassle they can do without.

Dave.
