NJB. Originally I agreed with your sentiments regarding super unleaded and always made the trip to a busy BP outlet for their BP Ultimate fuel, however after a garage delivery problem and being forced to use std unleaded from the local garage I mysteriously managed to find another tenth or so of pace. Granted there are many factors that could have contributed to this but the motor felt good and if anything gained a few more revs. I also recall reading an article on fuel burn that focused on the different burn characteristics of std and super unleaded fuels where the higher octane fuel actually had a slower flame front at lower compression ratios such as used by the MAX. This could be a contributory factor in gaining a few revs with the lower rated fuel. The bottom line being that since using std fuel I have found no improvement or any detectable change by spending the extra cash and travel time buying the super.
