Ok, i'm not a fan of dynos. As previously said on this forum, a stopwatch is a much clearer indication of the race performance of an engine than a meaningless graph.

But since people insist on using these dyno readouts as a measurement, and engine builders are quite happy to exploit those who are willing to pay, do you think there should be some set standards?

Again, as previously stated, Tuner A's dyno might measure an engine at 28hp, but the same engine on Tuner B's dyno could say 31hp. Should there be some sort of a yardstick to calibrate all these dynos?

For example if I thought my weighing scales were off, I could (hypothetically speaking!) get the IPK Kilogram from Sevres in France and check my scales.

Could a simple test be employed for dynos? Its shouldn't be too difficult to employ, as for example take Rotax, JAG could require that all engine sealers must have their dyno pass a certain test if they are to test Rotaxes on them. It could be like some sort of a certificate, like a hygiene certificate in a restaurant.

I'm not totally up to date with how dynos work, or the range of different dynos out there, but what do you think?
