As has been said already, Rotax Max is much more popular than TKM... but is a good deal more expensive.
You're looking at around GBP1,500 for an entry level chassis/engine combo with a decent amount of time left on the motor.
An entry level TKM /2 chassis engine combo will set you back about GBP500.
Be very careful when buying secondhand Max kit. The engines are sealed by the UK distributors' authorized agents and you must obtain a logbook with the engine which confirms its provenance. Without it you won't be allowed to race. Rebuilding of Max engines must only be done by one of these approved agents and its expensive. Hence its better to pay slightly more for something where the history and time on the motor is known.
The best thing to do is to get down to your local kart track for their next meeting and spend some time talking to people there before you decide what to do and most importantly before you part with any cash.
