As a karting Dad I would just like to add my thanks to the HKC organisers, Rick Musk the Rye House track owner, & all officials for a brilliantly organised weekend at the London Cup. Alex & I have been round a few karting clubs in the UK & Europe in our time - & the scene at Rye House club-wise is for sure the best & friendliest of anywhere we have seen. Next Sunday we will all be there to cheer on our most famous alumni, Lewis Hamilton, from the club bar.
I have read some interesting comments this morning about the weekend - but let me add the comments of Warwick of Strawberry who sat with me to watch the Max Grand Final: "if you can learn to overtake at Rye House, you can overtake anywhere".
It is a tight & narrow track fast / slow track, & the conditions on Sunday were very challenging - so there were a few accidents, & some dented pride as being fast at Rye House is not easy, especially in full wet, & then later a drying track. Rye remains one of the best & most unique kart tracks in the UK + with the investment planned for 2009, it will continue to get better & better (& probably bigger).
Let me thank JPM Motorsports & Ricard engines who set up Alex's kart perfectly...& got the tyre pressures for the drying track in the final spot on. Alex & the Tecno on Ricard engines set fastest lap in prefinal & final...nuff said ?
Should also give a hello to Mike Spencer - a superb bloke & competitor.
Cheers.
