Have to disagree with you SteveC, they are abdicating their responsibility. It should not be necessary to bounce over kerbs and suffer the consequential damage, in order to remain competitive. I will admit that I'm not familiar with the kerbing at Whilton, it may be that riding it doesn't inflict much damage, but I feel that clubs should present a united front on this. I suppose if I'm being honest, my real gripe with allowing short cutting over kerbs is that it reduces the degree of driving precision required, and de-skills the cornering process. It negates some of the advantage held by really good drivers. A good example of this is the chicane at Clay Pigeon, which used to require a dab of the brake and some skill to get a good exit speed onto the straight. The last time I was there in '05, it was a no lift, straight lining smash over both kerbs, requiring no skill and an absence of mechanical sympathy, where previously a good driver could have made a tenth or two.
