on this one! There's defensive driving and defensive driving!
It came from Cadet and I watched it filter it's way up into Jnr TKM and then on to JICA and then to Seniors when the same batch moved on up and it started around the Button, Davidson, then continued through the Hamilton era and is still around today. What also followed in those classes was a lot of protesting too which hardly existed before the Cadet Fathers of that era started it and it followed thro' the classes as they went thro' the sport.
I can't balme anyone who on the last lap about to win a National Championship drives up the inside to keep the rival at bay, but come on we're teaching these kids even when they have space between them and the kart behind from half way thro' a race to drive up the inside of tracks and then that space disappeared then you get a lot of frustrated drivers and it usually ends in tears!
I've been advocating that we have much too much emphasis on being fast on the watch up until racing starts and far too little race craft is being taught! Why? Because fast on the watch allows for Teams to get their pay day, whereas poor race craft can be blamed on the kid!
I suspect QOT had to learn to drive, like I did (ok I had limited success, but that success was thro' learning how to drive rather than throwing money at equipment) and in our day if you'd have driven up the inside you would most certainly have found yourself in the tyres!
Oddly enough I don't many CoC's that have too much sympathy for drivers that drive over defensively!
