We are not just talking about winning as in the 1st place race result but winning as in all the battles for position down the field, and the fact that its for 1st with a lap to go doesn't make any difference. Like most in this sport, I suspect you are unaware of the rules on this matter, so here they are (taken from the 2006 regs, but I don't think they've altered):
During a race or practice, a kart alone on the track may use the full width of the track. However, as soon as it is caught up by a kart which is either temporarily or constantly faster, the driver shall give the other vehicle the right of way. Curves, as well as the approach & exit zones thereof, may be negotiated by the drivers in any way they wish, within the limits of the track. Overtaking may be done on the left or the right. Manoeuvers liable to hinderother drivers such as premature direction changes on the straight, crowding of karts towards the inside or outside of the curve, or any other abnormal changes of direction are strictly prohibited.
