It's a business, club racing is not and it's all volunteers, that will be the biggest difference.

If you watch the 'kart show' with John Hoyle, he says that some years when the entries have been low they struggle to break even. But when the entries are high then it can look quite a cushy business. It's risk and reward and all that comes with it.

In some respects it's better that it costs more. The more it costs the more committed the racers will be. If it was only Ł50 then you are more likely to get drivers turning up for a bit of a laugh and not taking it all that seriously. That's fine at club level but at the top level you want everybody fully committed, if they have paid a lot of money then they will not be happy if their kart fails for silly mistakes, they are more likely to be fully prepared both in driving ability and equipment.
