I think it's fair to say Clay as earned the reward of a super 1 slot. Yes there are many good tracks and many are struggling to attract regular grids but Clay is an example to those struggling tracks because it shows even a smaller track can offer something for everyone:
A great cafe, with good viewing for racers and non racers alike.
Good parking and paddock area, either hard standing or even if further away, a good access path to the grid.
They embrace both MSA and IKR racing.
Plus they offer regular testing opportunities.
Finally, good web presence and information.
I think the investment in facilities is one of the main reasons they've been given the super 1 slot. Yes the actual track is important, to the racer but many tacks need to give more consideration to the parent, spectator, mechanic (often the same thing), as they don't like bouncing a kart trolly across a field, waiting in a line for a burger van, offering limited choice. Or shivering in a car or awning on a Saturday night because there's nowhere else to go. Especially for lad and dad teams, the event is the whole package and they'll vote with their feet (wheels), those tracks that offer more will flourish, those that can't/won't, will struggle.
