I've been using the Euro style bumper since they came in.
They offer a great deal more protection from impact, whether it be a kart or the tyres arriving quickly.
They also prevent one from hooking into another karts front wheel and removing the valves.
Like a steel bumper they can be used as a tuning aid, done up stiffly or loosely and run at differing heights, so they can act as a torsion bar.
The single piece ones can be a bit of a pain in the wet, because one has to extend tyre so that it is wider than the bumper, however, for another £50 one can get a three part adjustable bumper (why do I think there's a rip off going on there?)
Downsides? Weight, and if they do touch the ground or the tyres, wear.
Plus some people see them as an excuse to hit you, but the new demountable nosecone should stop that.
Upside, if your rival is following you closely, an abrupt braking manoeuvre is likely to set him back 10 places and probably won't disturb your driving at all. (No, no that won't do at all : don't even think it)
