Is it also not that car racing has gone significantly better value for money?

If you want to be competitive and not looking at using it as a step on the driving career then car racing is massively better value. If you look at 3 or 5 seasons in something like the alfa championship, mx5s, fiestas etc then season 1 you buy the car and then the next few seasons are just simple upkeep and when you decide to leave the class you still have something that is worth what you paid for it. Obviously that's assuming its not the destruction derby classes like hot hatch or something.

Who here is competitive in a national championship where there kart is worth the same as it was 3 years ago?

Also the tracks don't tend to help matters in my opinion either.
