Unfortunately it was my lad who had the accident. Good news is though he is fine apart from a bit of bruising. He has already made sure I have the kart ready for the weekend, just cleaning off the fire extinguisher powder!!!

I have thanked all the dads who were quick to the scene and helped my boy but cannot thank them enough, you know who your are!!

On a serious note, safety gear saved the day for us. His race suit hasn't ripped, just melted slightly from sliding across the Tarmac. He wears a sparco rib tec which has shoulder protection which probably avoided broken ribs and collar bone. Helmet trashed but did its job and always has a neck brace on. My advice is kit your lad out properly, it's not worth trying to save the odd kilo by skimping on safety gear!
