Good advice Adam. Tyres are up to £144 a set now, so it's well worth keeping old sets for testing - I can just about get 3 race days out of a new set, but only if I make sure never to overheat them.
Essentials for starting out in TKM other than the kart:
Carb pressure tester Spare carb rebuild kits Tyre changing equipment (bead breaker and "spoon" or levers) Sprockets - find the gearing for your first circuit you're going to test at, then get sprockets at one and two teeth more as well. Start out at 2 teeth over the recommended Spare track rods Spare back bumper bolts
I think for me that would cover the essentials, although when you're learning and spend time in the tyre wall a spare steering column can be a very useful thing to own.
