DOT4 and DOT5.1 (and DOT6 now I think) have better properties for racing.

DOT5 is better in low maintenance environments.

The thing with karting is we don't generate high brake temps and in a lot of cases, we operate in a low maintenance environment, hence the specified DOT5. Of course, cost and margin may come into also.

That being said, just use the stuff specified for the seals you use and forget about. It doesn't make much/any difference in karting.
