Answer 3 is the give away.....
"If he's slow away, you would drive straight round him....."
What..... exactly like what happens in your 'loading' 'train' of karts........? The ones at the back simply drive AROUND if they are faster????? You are JOKING, of course! If that were the case, then there would BE no 'loading' today. The man behind MUST be faster if he can PUSH the man in front..... if he's not, he CAN'T! There are advantages in pushing the man in front rather than driving round him!
If you 'drive around' the man in front, then he is still there to overtake later in the race or to shove YOU later. If you 'take him out'..... problem solved! Finally, if you 'take him out' but leave him on the TRACK, spun, you'll 'discomfort' all the REST of the following drivers and give yourself a nice lead!! ......Not that I've done that, of course....!
The idea that you can't set up clutches to make them better for SS is about as sane as a statement 'you can't set up Rotax Carbs to make them better'. Until now, there has been no advantage to create a 'great' clutch...... there is NOW. The 'arms race' will start NOW..... or more accurately, it started just before the first SS race: you just don't know about it yet!!!
