David, you really must stop this! The rolling starts today are not ONE FRACTION different than they were in my youth. Not only were they always like this but I DID THE SHOVING TOO... until I worked out I was merely helping the guy in front whose motor was not as strong as mine. Yes, in MY day, the lead driver could retaliate by moving to one side enough to 'flip' the following vehicle but it didn't stop it from happening in the next heat! Well...... there WERE differences.... our old starters held us at a MUCH lower speed when approaching the flag than they do today. Many more starts were 'cancelled', by people being too fast or not 'parallel' and many more were punished by being sent to the back of the grid for infringements.
Can you explain to me how your 'start' at PFI works. Those drivers with the FASTEST karts (on pole) are being pushed by people with SLOWER karts.....? Really? How?
Let's assume you are right (which you are not)..... how will standing starts PREVENT that? I am happy to say that I can push you off the track as easily at 20mph in the right corner as I can at 60mph in the right corner..... so long as we need to brake for the first corner, that is. Whatever type of 'start' is selected, the ONLY way it can have a differences is if it creates a greater gap between each kart and thus reduces the chance of an accidental contact. It still won't stop the deliberate 'ram'.
Damn it, Roger Goff had a better motor than I and I can remember deciding to take him out on the first corner in 100 National A, at Kim simply by not braking at all and allowing my excess 'energy' (speed) to be taken into his mass and leaving him to handle MY excess inertia. I forgot how much better Roger was than I was...... It didn't stop me trying...... and RE-Trying when we were both in 125 G/box from...... a standing start! I lost out both times! Will I ever learn!
The manner of the start made ZERO difference to the determined!
What's odd is that I think we both agree on that!
