How, in god's name, do you assess that a FEW standing starts have already made karting LESS expensive?
If you believe this, you are a beginner at this stuff. Every SINGLE time a new 'technology' has been introduced it COSTS money.
Ask yourself these questions and reply HONESTLY:-
1) How much did you spend on 'tuning' your clutch before the introduction of SS? 2) Do you think there are ZERO ways to make your clutch/engine a FASTER 'launch' from standing than it is, currently. 3) If little Johnny beats your little Billy from the standing start by (let's) guess, 3 kart lengths, how much will YOU be willing to pay to get that 3 metres BACK as it could easily make the difference between 'winning'; and 'also ran'?
This is what's wrong in karting: people GUESSING and changing things, ultimately for NO other reason than increasing immediate profits!
We already HAVE the experience of what happens with starting starts.... it doesn't need ANOTHER experiment ...... but we are going to get it to help kart firms make more money whether we like it or not!
