NJB.... I am not doubting that's how you act..... even if you don't....
BUT, are you trying to claim that the driver's opinion about the change you have made has NO effect on their lap times????? I know that NOT to be true! If the driver EXPECTS change X to give Y results..... it probably WILL, for him.... because he'll be EXPECTING it to have changed the performance in that direction.
Be honest, how many times have you made a change for which your driver is 'opposed' and had him subsequently come in and say.... 'I was wrong, that change you made has given the REVERSE change to what I expected AND I am going faster, now'?
Placebo effects are totally weird! Did you know, for example, that a red placebo tablet has MUCH more effect than a white placebo tablet..... even if they are TOTALLY inactive either way. People deliver the performance they are expecting... if not, then Homeopathy would not give ANY results...... because there is S*D ALL in the 'medicine'
Do you HONESTLY claim that, if you tell the driver you have replaced the axle with a stiffer one, but have really replaced it with a floppy one, that he'll NOT come back reporting the changes you'd expect from a stiffer axle.....?
Drivers are great..... but they are SHEEP...... I was, too!
