My son retired from kart racing for nearly 6 years! He had been racing for 12 years, from cadets to KF2. The introduction of the KF class was one of the main reasons he stopped racing, the cost was a factor, but the inability to get the top motors was the main reason he stopped. Rotax was coming on strong by then, but it was soon very clear to us that Rotax had a even bigger problem, than KF, with the inequality of the motors, and Rotax rapidly turned into a near monopoly on where to get kit from. So he decided to stop..which was a bit of a blow for me , having been activley involed in the sport since 1976....He stayed involved in karting, though, and run his own drivers/team, and he enjoyed it very much...Then at the start of 2013 he said he fanccied racing again. I was surprised , but also delighted...so we got some kit together and went of testing, and testing, and a bit more testing...we like testing.
He has done several meeting this year, along with running other drivers. and we had a far amount of success, and have both enjoyed it immensely. We are planning on more racing in 2014.
Its a strange sport/hobby it seems very difficult to let go completely. I never went to a kart meeting for nearly 3 years after he stopped, but once I went again I soon got hooked again.
I did not want my son to stop racing when he did, but you have to respect there decision. It turned full circle for us, so maybe it will for you.
