My son is 8 and we've raced IAME this year after moving up from Bambino at the beginning of the year. We race at various tracks, some IAME grids and some Libra grids with Honda cadet (not clubman). We're making steady progress but not setting the world alight. At tracks like Bayford and Buckmore where we race with the Hondas we're generally at the back. At Forest Edge I would say we're mid pack now.
He really wanted to race at Buckmore for the 50th anniversary as he wanted to see Johnny Herbert. As there was no IAME or Libra grid we hired a project one kart and standard T1 engine and entered the Honda 'O' plate in the clubman class. As he wasn't used to driving a Honda we weren't really expecting much, just a bit of fun really.
We were therefore quite surprised with his times in practice as they were really quite impressive. In qualifying he qualified 23rd overall, less than a second behind the S1 champion but more notably 2nd in the clubman class, also beating several 'full' cadets.
So was this just a fluke or does racing IAME make for a better driver??
